Objectives:

  1. Outline Racial Disparities in Maternal and Infant Health

    1. Define race (content dependent on length of workshop), health inequity, and provided examples of disparities

  2. Understand the Causes of Racial Disparities, including:

    1. Review outdated understandings, including contribution of social determinants of health

    2. Explore more nuanced understandings, including the role of racism in medicine (content dependent on length of workshop), structural determinants of health (content dependent on length of workshop), allostatic load and epigenetics, and racism and implicit bias

3. Understanding Implicit Bias

  1. Review formation, activation and application of implicit bias

  2. Explore strategies to mitigate implicit biases

3. Present framework for change at the individual and institutional/group level
